On this day 27 October 2016

To day was a much duller day and quite windy.
(Bad day for taking good photos)

The first thing that stood out was the lack of birds compared to Monday, the hedge next to the farm which is normally filled with House Sparrow was quiet, not one !
On the back lane there was one Yellowhammer and I did not spot the Little Owl. Furthest field next to the wood was empty too. Normally the Buzzards are there, later I found them flying round the lake annoying the Lapwings.

In the farmer's field all the Golden Plovers had gone, not one !!
About 120 Lapwings were flying round but not landing. On the other side of the road there was Greylag and Canada Geese grazing, with a few Coots.

On this day Monday 24 October

Warm sunny October morning,

Concentrated on the hedges that run along the road to the reservoir, good numbers of small farm land birds. Took me two hours just to get as far as the field were the Golden Plovers and Lapwings were feeding. Same field every year they over winter, will be interesting to see if more arrive over the winter. This is the larges flock I have seen here. Someone estimated there could be over 1000 birds.

First time I have seen the Tree Sparrows here in a few years, they used to be next to the farm, larger numbers of Tree Sparrows are there now, I wonder if the Tree Sparrows got pushed out.

Going to try and go once a week over the winter months to record the birds.
